An important aspect of sustainability reporting relates to health and safety and conditions of work and social protection.
Susan DeYoe, our health and safety specialist, has enabled both small and large private corporations and institutions to develop proactive and enabling health and safety policies and protocols that adhere to government regulations, reduce employer risk, avoid costly financial penalties, and may allow for financial rebates. Her corporate consulting services provide on-site advise to prevent and control operational losses through targeted, client driven Human Resources/Health and Safety Prevention Programs. These programs include: Job Evaluation and Physical Demands Analysis, Attendance Improvement, Workplace Audits, Disability Management, WSIB Claims Management, Health and Safety Systems and Employee Training and Development. This comprehensive and integrated approach to strategic management of health and safety policy helps ensure that employers optimize their fiscal and financial responsibility to shareholders. Importantly, continual learning and improvement is employed to help organizations advance health and safety protocols to accommodate changes implicit in corporate diversification and growth (Figure 1).

Specific services provided by Susan DeYoe focus on improving physical and mental well being of employees in the work place through innovative design of strategies and management plans that assist employers in providing proactive programs which help ensure corporate compliance, commitment to employee wellness and improved productivity. The strategic context is cyclic and self-reinforcing (Figure 1). Specific services provided by HR Solutions Inc. include:
- H & S Policy, Program Development and Application to Employer Management Systems, including Hazard Control. Policy development and program initiatives within both private and public sectors include: Health & Safety, Disability Management, WSIB Claims Management, Accident/Injury Prevention, Industrial Hygiene testing, Human Resource administration, Attendance Management, Operational Cost-containment Strategies and budget forecasting.
- Legislation Interpretation: Provide case law/legislation research, interpretation and procedural recommendations to client Board of Directors and senior administration, which involves: WSIA/Duty to Accommodate, Occupational Health & Safety Act, Health Care and Industrial Regulations, Human Rights Code, Employment Equity, Employment Standards Act and Collective Agreements.
- Accident Prevention Principles and Employer Account Management: WSIB NEER/MAP employer incentive programs, WSIB cost statement interpretation and claims appeal processes. Consulting expertise in employer/client education and training regarding health and safety issues, reporting protocols and legislation compliance.
- Advice and Consultation. Provide employer Health & Safety/Disability Management advisory expertise utilizing Loss Control and prevention philosophies. Design programs tailored to individual company requirements to promote self-reliance and minimize the financial impacts associated with illness/injury, while ensuring optimal employee health and surveillance needs are met.
- Physical Demands Analysis: Provide organization-wide job function Physical Demands Analysis (PDA). The PDA approach is the foundation for designing modified work programs, ESRTW planning, rehabilitation and work-hardening guidelines.
- Claims Management, Accident Reporting and Investigation: Provide claims management advice, accident/injury reporting procedures, and comprehensive accident investigation and developing proactive safety initiatives to prevent future occurrences. Assist with and provide protocols for WSIB claim adjudication issues and operational mandates and appeal processes. Install computerized accident reporting (e.g. Form 7’s, RE0 - 9), tracking data base and cost monitoring procedures (provides monthly injury frequency/severity statistical data for senior management and, reduces department overhead costs associated with accident reporting.
